In most Christian traditions, a fallen angel is an angel who has been exiled or banished from Heaven. Such banishment is a punishment for disobeying or rebelling against God. The best-known fallen angel is Lucifer. Lucifer is a name frequently given to Satan in Christian belief. In Heaven, his name was Lucifer. He was God’s most beautiful fallen angel. But even in this position, Lucifer was not content. He took pride in his own angelic nature, he was overly pleased with his supernatural gifts, his immortality, his closeness to God. And eventually, his pride became so great that he was angered at having a master of any kind, even God. He wanted to control his own destiny and so he rebelled against God and all of Heaven. He threw up his banner, recruited his army of equally discontented fallen angels and waged war against God for supremacy. To lead his own troops, God appointed the archangel Michael as his field commander. Thus having angel fallen from Heaven, Lucifer had a new name, Satan and his new domain was Hell. The angels who had fallen with became his Demons.
Angel names find their roots within ancient cultures, such as Babylon, Assyria, and Egypt, as well as within Jewish, Christian and Muslim lore. Over thousands of years, angel names have evolved in spelling, meaning and use within religions, mysticism and magic, where the name of an angel is thought important in order to invoke angelic help. Some rituals invoke good angels, while other rituals are to invoke fallen angels.
