Since it came up in another topic I figured it deserved its own topic. How did you discover, re discover, your current or "true" name. As discussed in other places many believe that an angel can't know their true name for their own safety, so a crude human equivalent is made which represents the true name but has enough protection encoded in it that no one can harm you with it if spoken. My own current name "Helena Prince" was not my original name. It was later changed. I notice also, that if broken apart whatever name I attach the components to, that part of the name overwhelms the other half.
For example, Christina Prince is my pen name. Everyone refers to me as a "he" despite the fact that Prince is a last name, not a title in this case. And whenever they tell me otherwise its "oh well I've never heard of a female prince." With that logic, Amy Mann should be a man. So I can only assume it is that part of my true name that is overpowering my name in this life.
My Original name was Helena the Torch, then changed to Helena (the) Prince. Why the change came I;m not sure (if any of you get any vibes from either name please share.) So how about you all, how did you discover or rediscover your names?

I believe my name to be more of a moniker (see: "what's in a name" :-P). It merely corresponds to the attributes I bring and is less a noun than adjective (see: "auriel" :-P). 'True' names are tricky business because they connotate (dunno if that's a word) a stagnation in some degrees...that one would have an eternal-unchanging title of which they are bound to, well that's how I feel at this time anyway. Instead, I've always best known myself and others by whatever signature or vibe they resonate...though I do realize a need to be called something....so really only through meditation and communing, I found (what I feel is) an applicable descriptor :-P.
Many Helens and Helenas throughout history and lore, may be fun to look into. What immediately stands out to me is "Helena the Torch". A torch of course being a guiding light through either the dim or dark...there's also many associations of a prince title being associated with light (see: sefewet lol....ok i'm sorry i'll be nice). I may look into it to see what I can find.

Thanks a bunch Auriel! Actually the name Helena is Greek for "torch" so I suppose the powers that be decided Helena (the) Torch was a bit too redundant maybe? The name changed once I was married, but it isn't my husband's name. He has a bunch of titles flying around but prince isn't one of them that I know of.
And i agree with the name being a flowing, changing, thing as the being them self flows and changes. But contrary to the idea of Angels being soul-less things, I think every creature has a soul, at least my my understanding of one. A soul to me is the core energy that makes up you. While your layers may be affected, by time or bad experiences, those layers take the brunt of it, to protect the soul from being harmed. At least that's how I feel about it anyway.

I recovered mine by one of my students cramming it in my head.
I don't believe any of us here recall our "true" names, if we do, we recall a terribly complexly translated version so there is no way anyone could get the real name for you.

Ah, the soul and layers....i personally relate the soul as an omnipresent (there's that word again) 'higher self' whereas the spirit is the earthly resonance thereof...i also subscribe to the concept of an oversoul.....so in other words i agree Helena. The I would place the spirit as a mix between the mind and energy/aura (feeling that the mind and brain are separate)...and by energy i mostly mean feelings/present demeanor passions...whereas the soul is more static and connected to collective thinking....i feel it's one's spirit that detaches from the body upon death...and then joins the soul (not that it's not connected, but gains more complete awareness on a conscious level vs subconscious).....well this has a lot to do with names lol, a new thread perhaps?

Haahaa if you feel a subject deserves a thread start it! (don't let me do all the work! haahaa). I don't know, knowing my personality I'd say another reason or I suppose "punishment" given to me is my dependency on others. If we're going with my layers theory my inner self is Dependant on them to survive. In ever life, even in my angelic life, I've been dependent on others in some way. Maybe part of the reason I was seperated from my layers was to test me, to see if I could survive without them. In that particular life, I was protected almost the entire time, the few times I wasn't I got into some major trouble. In fact one of the people who played the greatest role in helping me wasn't supposed to be there (though if God really wanted to stop that from happening, I believe he would have.)
So in that life, I believe, I completed the task of proving my inner self is strong enough to survive without my powers, my defenses, and etc. I have both my layers back in this life (in one body) but mt inner self is my guiding force, the layers of self only influence and give their two cents. Its when I let those layers control me, get the better of me, that I need a refresher on what it means to be vulnerable.

Yeah the name Nemo is meant to be ironic actually. Because the name "nemo" literally means "nothing, unimportant" And you're neither Nemmy *hugs*

heehee not a problem. Meeeh when I think of the image of "Prince" which would be my core name, I finally see someone...who looks nothing like me, yet it is me. Geeze I wish my mortal mind didn't have the thinking capacity of a small grapefruit v_v.

How can I say? It hit me in the face? I think my former (angelic) name that I know now, is just a translation of what my duties were. I believe I abandoned that name after I fell, and began going by another. I also know what that one is. And it startled me to see it listed in a book once. But I've since...accepted it?

My name came to me when I was talking to another angelkin one day and was asked. This is a name I have used as an Angel. I have had other names.
Isiriel is the closest thing to spelling to what I have been called - the "s" is not quite an sh, but almost - and every vowel is a dipthong, it seems. (ahee-shUIR-ahee-ehl). I get the feeling the human tongue cannot do it justice.

I was reading through a list of angel names, saw one and passed it over, then realized that I was crying for no reason. I went back and looked at it again, and cried some more, and then spent the rest of the day feeling like someone had smashed an egg on my forehead. I hashed the rest of it out through lots of meditation.
It's a 'name' in so far as it's what I go by, but it's just a title. It means 'watcher of the hands,' and I took it when I fell because I needed to change my name so I wasn't called 'perfection of God' anymore.

I just prayed for mine to be revealed to me, never found the exact name anywhere, (I don't go by it and I haven't posted it on any of these forums cause I'm kinda paranoid) although translated it's pretty much just a title, Hand of God.

My true name cannot be uttered with human vocal systems at all - I know it because in the planes nonphysical I use it for identification purposes sometimes in special circumstances since I am awakened. Before that (see below). However I possess a kind of mailbox labeled with a human expression - name - that denotes me, also a sigil. I seldom interact with humans but it is known in some dusty manuscripts, my name. The knowledge of it came well before my awakening in 2003 within a kind of self-discovery-package I received by the spirits back then. I got it because I had to use some certain abilities connected to Seraph (certain Healing power) within a shamanic session and since then I sometimes can lift up the veil and reveal to humans some bit of my true nature (I utter my name in spirits world to achieve this - humans only hear a special singing technique then).
