Angelics are spirits. Like any other spirit, they have no soul (originally soul was a term that specifically referred to a breath of life). To be born and given free will, an Incrnate angel, before incarnating must graft a soul to his spirit, or take in a breath of life. The most common way to do this is find an unformed soul, one that hasn't incarnated yet. There are two other ways, however.
First one may approach a departed soul, before it enters into the life cycle again (if it is going to), and make a bargain with it. In this case the incarnated may take on some physical or personality traits of the previously developed soul.
The other way I refer to as harvesting. It is capturing a soul that has been formed (sometimes of a recently departed as with the prior example, sometimes actually taking it from a living person, thus killing them) and forcing the graft. In this case a lot more problems may occur. First off the soul is often pretty pissed off, and tries to get out, the emotion and rage from the soul gives it more power, which means it influences the incarnate's thoughts and actions more. As its still technically part of them, though, they don't necissarily realize its an "outside" force. Sometimes, though, they'll even hear the soul talking to them. It would be somewhat like having a second conciousness in your mind, like you have conflicting thoughts that drive you two different directions.
